    Increase sump capacity and move filler plug on MK2 Sumpt to MK1 position

    Well the devils hands were at work today again plus I had to wait on the paint drying on the hatch

    The oil capacity externsion was easy enough but on these it was desired to move the oil filler plug from "front" to "back" in other words reverse what rootes originally did and make it like a MK 1

    Bob Picton kindly supplied the machined bosses and the sumps so I could have something to beat up and work on

    First cut the end section out, not fully as these will be used with rear rad in palce so still needs the space for the coel and the rad itself.

    And off with the rear fille plug as well.

    Then drill front for new drain plug locations using the new bosses.

    And of course we should not forget on its apex the sump runs to the rear drain plug location so now a trim along the apax and some rough re-shaping to avoid gettinga pool of oil that will not drain

    And that should be most of the roughing work done maybe perhaps


    If its a good day tomorrow I might get some welding done and get at least the drain plugs and the apex seam/old plug location sorted out

    Loving it John .
    Ready for my birthday? , picking up 998 engine that has gone up one size , two reground crankshafts and set of honed 998 liners on birthday also , must find the time to convert two standard blocks sat behind the mill at work .

      No worries Bob, they should take shep a bit more tomorrow

      If I can get the boss in place and the seam welded and sorted it is just the sheet material to cut and fold.

      Totally nutty idea but if you did a 1/8 NPT boss I could add an oil temp sender in the bottom if you ever wanted to fit one.

          Bit more done today, seams on both and boss welded in (boss a bit ugly but will do)

          Sheet metal in place for first one, started getting a bit cold so thats it for today

              Suprising how little Colin, I reckon only an extra litre and a bit maybe ?

              Once I have the outside up I will think aboyt the baffles, cannot make mind up on flaps or holes

                That's a decent enough increase in capacity is it not John? Will surely make a difference in the oil keeping cooler as well I would imagine. Baffles will be required no doubt, more work in doing flaps than plate with holes in it.

                  For teh flaps I was just going to use the nibbler and fold, just enough to stop it going all way forward on break and reasonable on accel

                    Good thing about that extra capacity is you don't have to fill up as often to counter the leaks.

                        Actually I'm "presuming" the car will still leak, they all seem to like to leave their mark.
