Wiper wheel boxes old NOS and other fit and diffrences

Just posting a note about the new wheel boxes supplied by Bob at Club Spares.

These do fit but much narrower than the originals and it is ESSENTIAL you buy these with new tubes otherwise the rework needed is just too much.

The original wheelbox clamps one side and only has slots on the securing plate, the new ones have slits in both so the tube has very little to grip

It also requires to be threaded onto the drive as the curve wraps around the drive gear rather than be clamped onto it like a NOS one. Makes fitting it much more of an effort.

Initially I modified the wheel boxes as I did not realise I needed new tubes to suit them. Working with what I had I made them fit BUT !!! the lack of clamping in/out caused the boxes to wobble when the rack was active so I canned the idea.

Should be FINE as long as you get the correct tubing from Bob at time of order.

Anyway the NOS ones I fitted are now in and fine.

Now these do wear, however a top tip from mod master Mr Dave Lane I added two pips using the centre punch to mark "0" position.

If the sprocket wears in how many decades and i am still around I can turn it 180 degrees as the drive gear only moves less than 180 degrees in total so at least i nkow when to turn it 180 degrees to.
